Overview of the benefits and downsides

  Benefits Downsides
No surgery on the fallopian tubes and ovaries
  • No surgery.

  • No early menopause.
  • Increased risk of ovarian cancer.

Removal of fallopian tubes and ovaries at the same time
  • Risk of ovarian cancer becomes very small.
  • One surgery with cost of health insurance duductible (if not yet used that year).

  • Early menopause immediately after surgery.

Remove fallopian tubes first and remove ovaries later
  • Early menopause is delayed until after ovaries are removed.
  • First surgery can be done as soon as there is no longer a desire to have children. The risk of ovarian cancer may then be lower.
  • Two surgeries with cost of health insurance deductible (if not yet used that year). Depending on how things are organized in your country.
  • Possibly more likely to get ovarian cancer because the ovaries stay in place longer.
